Mexico is the guest country at the 54th Festival of Pollença and this double film session is part of cycle of activities Approach to the Mexican culture, held parallel to the festival with the support of the Tourism Board of Mexico and the Secretariat of Tourism of the Federal Government.
First will be projected the film Y yo entonces me llevé un tapón (And then I took a cap) (2012), which reveals the making of a mythical movie of the Spanish Republican exile En el balcón vacío (in the empty balcony) (1962). It is based on an autobiographical text written by Maria Luisa Elio during a stay in Cuba, while Jomi Garcia Ascot, her husband, went to the film school of which he was the founder.
The revolutionary atmosphere of Havana brings back in Maria Luisa memories of her childhood in Pamplona and her departure from Spain before the imminent outbreak of civil war, first to France and then to Mexico. Both films will be presented by the couple's son, editor Diego Garcia Elío.
