‘Wilt. El crimen de la muñeca hinchable’

It is the first stage adaptation of Wilt, the novel written by Britain Tom Sharpe (London, 1928) which has become a landmark of contemporary literature and, especially, of comedy. Wilt. El crimen de la muñeca hinchable (Wilt. The crime of the inflatable doll) was released last September 19 at the Teatro Campos Elíseos de Bilbao and is now on tour, the first stop being the Teatre Principal de Palma.

In Wilt, published in 1976, Sharpe ridicules the topic of polite British society through implausible characters, unexpected twists, common farcical situations and jokes of a sexual nature. The protagonist is Henry Wilt,  a professor of literature undervalued by his students and humiliated by his wife Eva, a woman who is physically strong but immature of mind. The novel was a huge success and in 1989 was made into a film, directed by Michael Tuchner and starring Griff Rhys Jones.

This first stage adaptation is the work of writer-director José Antonio Vitoria, directed by Garbi Losada. Wilt's role is played by Fernando Guillen Cuervo, forming the rest of the cast the actors Angel de Andres, Ana Milan, Koldo Losada and Aitziber Garmendia.
