The internationally acclaimed Bolshoi ballet presents the most emblematic work of Sergei Prokofiev, an adaptation of William Shakespeare's classic, Romeo and Juliet. The ballet music served the author as a basis for composing three orchestral suites and various works for piano.
The piece failed to debut until 1938 in Brno, in the Czech Republic, after that, in 1940, in the Russian city of Kirov. Finally, in 1946 it was performed at the Bolshoi Theatre, from where it is now offered deferred on a big screen.
It is one of the composer's most popular works, thanks to the high melodic inspiration, the rhythmic variety and memorable character of the two main themes, the famous and sinister Dance of the Knights and its many variations, and the delicate passage of Juliet.
