In 2018, the centenary of the death of Pere Miquel Marqués (Palma, 1843-Madrid, 1918), one of the most important Mallorcan composers, is celebrated. Formed with Berlioz in Paris, he is the greatest exponent of Spanish symphonism in the second half of the 19th century, nicknamed the 'Spanish Beethoven'.
The 32th Opera and Ballet Season of the Teatre Principal de Palma commemorates him by programming El reloj de Lucerna, a lyric drama in three acts that the critics called a masterpiece at the time.
Premiered at the Teatro Apolo in Madrid in 1884, El reloj de Lucerna was 20 years on the line. Now it comes back to light thanks to the collaboration of the Principal with the Instituto Complutense de Ciencias Musicales (ICCMU), which has carried out a meticulous work of reconstruction of the manuscripts kept in the SGAE archive. A mostly local cast will dust off the 15 complete numbers of this exquisite and full of inspiration title.
Production of the Teatre Principal de Palma with Carlos Martos as stage director, José María Moreno as musical director and with the participation of the Orquestra Simfònica Illes Balears and the Cor del Teatre Principal in Palma, under the direction of Pare Víctor Rado. Video creation of Pedro Chamizo.
