'The Bat'
Comic operetta in three acts by Johann Strauss, Jr. (Austria, 1825-1899) and German libretto by Carl Hafner and Richard Genée. It premiered in April 1874 at the Theater an der Wien in Vienna.
It is based on a German comedy called the Prison byJulius Roderich, in turn inspired by the French vaudeville The midnight feast, but in his adaptation Strauss moved the action to a Viennese party.
