Since its publication in 1962, La Plaça del Diamant (original title in Catalan) has been translated into more than forty languages, filmed by Francesc Betriu with the excellent interpretation Silvia Munt and actress Jessica Lange did in 2009 in New York a dramatic reading of the play.
Now to the Auditori d'Alcúdia comes this new adaptation directed by Juan Ollé and with Lolita Flores in the unique role of Natalia 'La Colometa'. In La Plaça del Diamant, considered the most important novel of the post-war Catalan narrative, Mercè Rodoreda (1909-1983) gives a true portrayal of the Barcelona of the time through the protagonist, a young woman who accepts without complaining everything that life and her husband impose upon her.
This adaptation of Juan Ollé, who already presented another version of Rodoreda's work in 2004 at the Festival Castell de Peralada, is a hard and heartbreaking inner monologue of manners. It is produced by the Teatro Español and is part of the Program Platea.
