French-Italian film of 1971 directed by Luchino Visconti and starring Dirk Bogarde, Silvana Mangano and Björn Andersen. This is an adaptation of the novella Death in Venice (1912) by German writer Thomas Mann, with music of Gustav Mahler.
Set in the early twentieth century, tells the story of a German composer who suffers from severe depression and arrives in Venice for the summer. There he is attracted to a young androgynous stunning beauty which will consume him while discovering the city is affected by a cholera epidemic.
Morte a Venezia (Death in Venice) is part of the cycle Cinefilms organized by CineCiutat which includes twelve classics of film history in original version with subtitles in Castilian. It is held every Thursday from 24 January to 11 April. In italian.
