The theatre company Sa Boira releases El Manantial (The Fountainhead), the work of Irish playwright, poet and folklorist John Millington Synge (1871-1909). A key figure of the literary revival of his country, he was one of the founders of the Abbey Theatre in Dublin.
In the El Manantial, the protagonists are a couple of blind beggars, Martin and Mary Doul, who live on handouts from the local people and are proud of their supposed beauty. When a saint returns their sight thanks to miraculous spring water, they break up. Martin wants to woo Molly Byrne, but their blindness returns and the two decide to live together again after having seen all the miseries and injustices.
Finally the saint returns to definitively cure them but Martin prefers to stay blind and renounces to join the world of the sighted that represents the norm and social convention.
The production is directed by Bernat Fiol and Mateu Pujol - who is also responsible for the scenery and costumes - and interpreted by Mateu Segura, Antonia Burguera, Maria Llobera, Pilar Redondo, Manolo Serrano, Carme Pizà Moses Cordoba, Marta Gonzalez Neus Morlà Javier Bordona, Carlos Juvert, Joan Moreno and Patricia Maldonado.
Sa Boira is a theater company founded in 1987 and belongs to the National Organization of the Blind (ONCE). In 2013 it won the Max Aficionado Award for its entire theatrical career.
