In February 1673, Molière premiered the comedy The Imaginary Invalid, a play that was humorous and satirical and focused on the doctors of his time. A few days after the premiere, in the middle of the performance, the playwright felt unwell and died a few hours later at his home. The illness that he had been suffering from for years finally got the better of him and these pseudoscientists could do nothing to help him.
Sergio Baos directs and signs this free adaptation based on Molière’s play The Imaginary Invalid. If in the 17th century it was common to criticize the medicine of the time, and for Molière doctors were frauds and, to a large extent, swindlers, the question that Baos asks himself is: who are the swindlers and health frauds today? The answer is clear. At a time when misinformation, denial of science and intellectuality is constant, the new gurus of pseudosciences and new spiritualities play a key role in our era.
