The fourth concert of the 2019-2020 Season of the Studium Aureum Foundation is dedicated to three of Johann Sebastian Bach's cantatas (1685-1750). It is directed by Carles Ponseti and, half an hour before the concert, the composer Mercè Pons will give a talk about the works and their author.
The term cantata was born in Italy in the 16th century and basically served to distinguish sung music (da cantare) from the play with instruments or sonata (da sonare). Later the cantata outlines its shape as a chain of parts with their own independent personality, but linked by an idea or main theme.
The most significant parts of the J. S. Bach cantata are: Symphony (no obligatoria), Aria, Recitativo, Arioso, Coral and Choir.
