‘Jacques Henri Lartigue and André Kertész’

The Toni Catany International Photography Center presents in a large exhibition the work of two pioneers of modern photography: Jacques Henri Lartigue and André Kertész. Two authors deeply admired by Toni Catany (Llucmajor, 1942-Barcelona, 2013), who had photographs of Kertész in his collection and a wide bibliographical representation of both in his library.

This international exhibition, presented for the first time at the Espace Richaud (Versailles, Paris) in 2023, consists of nearly 150 photographs distributed in thirteen areas: Jacques Henri Lartigue (1894-1986): the beginnings, André Kertész (1894-1985) : the wandering photographer, Lartigue, first act (1920-1940), Appointment at MoMA (1963): recognition, Kertész and the avant-garde (1925-1936), Appointment at MoMA (1964): each in turn, Kertész in New York, The professional Lartigue, The liberated Kertész, The contemporary Lartigue, Sequences, Dialogues and The last years.

The Frenchman Jacques Henri Lartigue (Courbevoie, 1894- Nice, 1986), known as 'the photographer of happiness', is considered a great master of the snapshot; For his part, the Hungarian André Kertész (Budapest, 1894- New York, 1985) was a pioneer of photojournalism and exponent of reflective photography.
