This is one of the oldest ballets from the classical world repertoire, created in 1789 in Bordeaux in full French Revolution by choreographer Jean Dauberval. The most famous version in recent years is that of Frederick Ashton for the Royal Ballet of London. Its argument revolves around the encounters of a boy and a girl whose happiness is opposed by interests and maternal authority. The couple's final triumph marks with a revolutionary touch the styles and customs of the times. It is offered deferred from the Royal Opera House in London.
