Formentor Sunset Classics programs two very unique concerts this summer in a privileged location overlooking the bay of Formentor, in northern Mallorca. The first brings us maestro Mikhail Tatarnikov, who will direct the Symphony Orchestra of the Balearic Islands in a production that combines music and film.
Thus, while projecting the film Alexander Nevsky (directed by Sergei M. Eisenstein in 1938), the orchestra will perform the Opus 78 Cantata for soprano, chorus and orchestra by Sergei Prokofiev, part of the soundtrack of the film. As the choir director will be performing Larissa Gergieva.
Mikhail Tatarnikov, who will perform in Spain for the first time, is the principal director of the prestigious Mikhailovsky Theatre in St. Petersburg and is considered one of the leading figures of classical music in Russia today. Meanwhile, Larissa Gergieva is artistic director of the Mariinsky Academy of Young Singers and artistic director of the Theatre of Opera and Ballet Vladikavkaz.
