It is one of the most represented zarzuelas in Spain, based on the play La discreta enamorada of Lope de Vega and libretto by Federico Romero Sarachaga and Guillermo Fernandez -Shaw Iturralde. It was first performed at the Apollo Theatre in Madrid in 1923 and has some of the most popular pieces of this musical genre, like Canción del ruiseñor (the nightingale song) composed by Joaquin Turina.
This production of the Teatre Principal of Palma has the stage direction of Pablo Lopez and musical direction by Carlos Aragon, featuring the Teatre Principal Choir and the Symphony Orchestra of the Balearics 'Ciutat de Palma'.
