This famed work by German composer Carl Orff (1895-1982) is based on a collection of goliard songs of the 12th and13th centuries, which were found in the 19th century in a document found in Benediktbeuern Abbey (Bavaria). The term Goliard was used in the Middle Ages to refer to certain types of vagabond and licentiousness clerics.
Carl Orff premiered Carmina Burana in 1937, structured as a scenic cantata for orchestra and chorus, with the participation of soloists (soprano, tenor and bass) and giving a prominent role to percussion.
Under the leadership of Felipe Aguirre involved 120 musicians on stage, with the participation of Cor Euroclàssics, Orfeó L'Harpa d'Inca, Orfeo d'Alaró, Pro Musica Chorus de Sóller and Coro Agora Portals. Soloists also Montse Melero (soprano), Alejandro Prieto (countertenor) and Lluís Sintes (baritone).
