‘Bamako’

Directed by Adberrahmanen Sissako  this Malian film from 2006 speaks of justice and the force generated by the union between people. It films the creation of a tribunal in the popular district of Bamako, where representatives of African civil society initiate a civil action against the international financial institutions like the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund, whom they consider responsible for the plight of Africa.

The process stages professional lawyers, representatives of civil society, actors and local residents, including melee, a bar singer and her husband Chaka who is unemployed.

Projected in original version in Bambara and French, subtitled in Castilian, the pass of this film is part of the African film series organized by the NGO d’Assemblea de Cooperació per la Pau de les Illes Baleares (Assembly of Cooperation for Peace of the Balearic Islands), in a campaign aimed at bringing African reality closer to Mallorcan society and to break down stereotypes and prejudices about the people of this continent.

The film will be presented by Toni Servera, Project Technician of d’Assemblea de Cooperació per la Pau de les Illes Baleares, with a debate afterwards in which has been invited the representative of an association of African immigrants in Mallorca.
