This famous opera in four acts with music by Giuseppe Verdi and libretto in Italian by Antonio Ghislanzoni, closes the XXVII Opera Season of the Teatre Principal de Palma. Aida was premiered to great acclaim at the Opera House of the Khedive in Cairo on December 24, 1871.
The libretto is based on the French version that Camille du Locle wrote on the subject proposed by the Egyptologist Auguste Marietteu. It tells the story of the Ethiopian princess Aida, captured and sent to Egypt as a slave.
This production of the Teatre Principal de Palma has musical direction by José María Moreno and stage direction of Francisco Lopez. Involving el Cor delTeatre Principal, the pianist Alfredo Abbati and Banda de Música de Son Rapinya, replacing the Orquestra Simfònica de Balears 'Ciutat de Palma' for its strike call. Rounding out the cast eight opera singers led by Eugenia Bethencourt, María Luisa Corbacho, Javier Borda, Ismael Pons and South Korean tenor Ji Myung Hoon.
