The series of paintings presented by Mary Sarraute takes as its starting point the iconographic and conceptual references of medieval hermetic, taking as its central theme alchemical processes for procreation. It is a symbolic reflection on the production and control of life.
Each of the paintings of El adivino químico (the Chemical Fortuneteller), is accompanied by an alchemical sheet, which in the form of a quote, refers to the visual and symbolic origin from which this piece is produced. In her work, Mariana Sarraute overlaps daily ornamental images and icons of different cultural backgrounds as a seductive trap to read the mysterious.
